Transportation

In rural areas we depend heavily on being able to use our cars. Making communities more bike friendly, providing carpooling opportunities, and exploring public transit are all ways to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and to promote healthier lifestyles – and save money in the process. Thus, it is important that we implement, support and promote efficient, active and shared transportation systems.

The following issues were identified by participants of the Green Strategy development in 2017 and 2018:

  • There are not enough options for biking, and there is a lack of promotion of healthy active living in the communities;
  • Heavy trucks go through communities, making it unsafe for biking;
  • There are too many cars, and carpooling, active transportation, and public transit are neither provided nor promoted.

Numerous actions were presented by community members that can help address these concerns. Look on the left-hand side of the screen under “Actions”. If you are looking for things that you can do, look under “What you can do”. To find out more about who is already working on the issues, look under “Digging Deeper”.
