Water Quality
Clean water is essential for all of us (including nature), thus we need to protect and improve water quality in our freshwater and coastal environments, and promote water conservation.
The quality of our water can be impacted negatively in various ways. In the region, a number of issues have been identified by citizens in 2017 and 2018 that may affect water quality:
- Continued pressure on our coasts and shorelines affect sensitive and critical natural systems so that their capacity to maintain good water quality is reduced (shoreline damage, wetland infringement & infilling).
- Effluent from private homes, businesses and sewage treatment facilities, containing various contaminants as well as bacteria (e.g., e-coli), negatively affect water quality.
- The lack of consistent and comprehensive water testing and communication of results is cause for considerable public concern.
Numerous actions were presented by community members that can help address these concerns. Look on the left-hand side of the screen under “Actions”.
