Energy Conservation & Renewable Energy

To reduce our impact on the climate (greenhouse gas emissions) we need to maximize energy efficiency and our use of renewable energy. Both, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy such as wind, solar or geothermal reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money. However, if you are thinking of a renewable energy project, it is essential to first improve energy efficiency of your buildings. Both approaches are already widely used in the province of New Brunswick.

The following issues were identified by participants of the Green Strategy development in 2017 and 2018:

  • There is little promotion about or incentives for renewable energy projects, and people don’t know enough about either;
  • Most of our buildings have low energy efficiency, and there are few programs to help people or encourage people to improve the efficiency of their buildings.

Numerous actions were presented by community members that can help address these concerns. Look on the left-hand side of the screen under “Actions”. If you are looking for things that you can do, look under “What you can do”. To find out more about who is already working on the issues, look under “Digging Deeper”.
